Title: Expanding the spectrum of everolimus-associated cutaneous toxicity:
An interesting case study
🧠
Presentation Highlights
• Core
Focus: Exploring the expanding clinical spectrum of cutaneous toxicity
associated with everolimus, an mTOR inhibitor used in oncology.
• Clinical
Context: mTOR inhibitors are widely prescribed for advanced malignancies
but frequently cause dermatologic adverse events that are heterogeneous and
difficult to classify.
• Case
Overview:
– 84-year-old patient with metastatic renal cell carcinoma
– Developed pruritic dermatitis three weeks after initiating everolimus
– Mixed eczematous and maculopapular morphology
– Distinctive dermatomal, “Christmas tree-like” distribution
– No mucosal or systemic allergic involvement
• Management
& Outcome:
– Discontinuation of everolimus
– Supportive therapy with antihistamines and emollients
– Rapid improvement within 48 hours
• Clinical
Significance:
– Highlights diagnostic complexity of targeted therapy-related skin reactions
– Emphasizes importance of morphologic characterization
– Supports early recognition and prompt intervention in dermato-oncology
practice
• Key
Message: Detailed case reporting strengthens understanding of mTOR
inhibitor-associated dermatitis and improves patient safety in precision
oncology.
